JOURNEYMAN QUESTIONS

Q. WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I COMPLETE THE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS?
Upon completion of the training program requirements you will need to submit a buckslip requesting the committee for completion from the program at the next committee meeting. Apprentices will receive a certificate from the State of Oregon certifying each one as a completed apprentice.

To protect the interests of all parties concerned and to assist in the enforcement of the various aspects of the agreement, the Oregon Department certification will not be recognized as a state license for the following programs Limited Energy Class A Technicians, Limited Energy Class B Technicians and the HVAC/Class B Installers.

Q. HOW DO I GET REFERRED TO TAKE THE STATE EXAM?
Once all requirements have been met for referral to test notify the apprenticeship department to be placed on the next agenda. Once referred, you will need to continue to fill out Monthly Progress Reports and keep all documentation current until the state exam has been passed or you have requested a completion without a passing score.

Q. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY APPRENTICESHIP CARD HAS EXPIRED AND I HAVE BEEN COMPLETED FROM THE PROGRAM - CAN I GET A CURRENT CARD?
No, unfortunately once we have completed an apprentice the Bureau of Labor and Industry will no longer issue an apprenticeship card.

Q. IS A JOB GUARANTEED ONCE THE APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING IS COMPLETED?
No, all apprentices must have a job as part of their training, which is called OJT (On The Job Training). Most apprentices stay with their current employer after completion to become a journey-person. If an apprentice does not have a job upon completion of the training, we will place them on the out of work list until you have successfully completed our program.

Q. IS THE AVERAGE JOURNEYMAN WAGE GUARANTEED AFTER COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM?
No, once an apprentice has been completed by the committee we can no longer determine your wage.

Q. CAN I RECEIVE COLLEGE CREDIT FOR ATTENDING RELATED TRAINING CLASSES?
There are some programs that are linked with the community colleges for related training instruction. In those classes the apprentice could received college credit and work towards a degree.

Q. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES OPEN TO JOURNEY WORKERS?

Others, with additional years of advanced studies, go on to become a technician. There are many opportunities for advancement, depending on the abilities, attitudes and ambitions of the individual.
