What is an Apprenticeship Program?

· Earn while you learn!  Work with an experienced trade professional to learn a valuable trade while
earning a good wage.  Attend classes one night per week. Receive pay increases as you gain more skills.

· Work anywhere. You will earn a nationally recognized journey–level certification upon completion of the 4 year program.

 

How Much Can I Earn?

· Earn $10-$13 per hour to start.

· Advance to $20 per hour—that’s about $41,500
per year—within 4 years.

· Experienced sheet metal professionals can make
upwards of $50,000 a year.

 

How Do I Get Started?

· You must meet these minimum qualifications:

1. Must be 17 years of age to apply

2. Have a high school diploma or GED certificate

3. Have an Oregon Career Readiness Certificate at the Silver Level –This skills assessment is offered free of charge. Contact ABC at 503.598.0522 for more information.

· Note:  Employers may require a pre-employment
substance abuse test and a valid drivers license.

· Applications will be ranked based on the Oregon
Readiness scores and a scored interview

What Do Sheet Metal Professionals Do?

· Make, install, and maintain HVAC systems

· Install siding, roof gutters, skylights,
restaurant equipment and outdoor signs

· Work with new products made from fiberglass
and plastic materials

· Use math and geometry to calculate angles for
fabrication and installation of mechanical systems 

· Fabricate and install air systems  

· Read blueprints and specifications

· Take measurements and construct  components,
check  for accuracy

· Work in factories, in existing buildings, or on
construction job sites

· Cut, fit, assemble , and occasionally weld metal components
