TRAINING AGENT RESPONSIBILITIES 
Training agents are expected to cooperate with the committee to keep apprentices employed and must strive to offer each apprentice a full spectrum of training as defined in the apprenticeship standard.

 

Training Agent Information

  • Pool of ApplicantsThe committee maintains a list of applicants to the apprenticeship program.  If you want to train additional apprentices contact the apprenticeship program and a list of prospective apprentices will be sent to you

 

  • Apprentice SupervisionJobsite ratios:  HVAC & Sheet Metal:  The ratio of apprentices to journeyman shall not be more than one (1) apprentice to the first one (1) journey-level worker on the jobsite for each of the first (2) apprentices.  Additional apprentices are authorized at a ratio of one (1) apprentice for each additional three (3) journey-level worker on the job site.  An apprentice working on any components of a low-voltage system must be supervised by a journey-level worker with a Class B or higher electrical license.    TAB and Sprinkler Fitter :  (1) apprentice for (1) journeylevel worker  

 

  • On-the-job training:  The training supervisor must understand that apprentices are learners. Valuable on the job training is most successful when the skill level and learning style of the apprentice is recognized.  The trainer must establish the skill level advancement so the apprentice knows how to reach the next step.  The trade language, including tools and processes must be explained.    

 

  • Monthly Progress Reports (MPR): The apprentice is responsible for filling in the hours worked each month and turning in the hours worked each month to the apprenticeship office.  The MPR’s are due the 10th of each month.  An authorized representative of the training agent is required to  sign Monthly Progress Reports (MPRs) for each apprentice employed, verifying the amount and type of work performed.

 

  • Discontinuing Employment If an apprentice’s employment is terminated for cause, written documentation must be submitted to the apprenticeship department.

 

  • Program CostsTraining agents are required to pay a monthly administrative fee.   Apprentices may not be charged for this administrative cost. Apprentices may be required to pay for related training classes.

 

  • Wage Requirement – Training agents are required to pay no less than the wage as indicated by period at which the apprentice has advanced to.   Apprentices start at period 1(50% of of the journey level wage) and advance to last period of the  training period.  The journey level wage is determined by an annual wage survey that is required by law. Training agents receive written notice of any changes to the rate of pay for apprentices.

 

  • Required Related Training – Apprentices must be released from work to attend related classroom instruction.
