Workforce Development - Be Part of the Solution

The Problem

The construction industry is facing an aging workforce coupled with an insufficient pipeline of new workers. Additionally, many parents and high school guidance counselors are unaware of how to walk students into apprenticeship programs within the construction trades industry.

The Solution

ABC PNW has implemented five different apprenticeship programs: Glazier, HVAC, Sheet Metal, Sprinkler Fitter and TAB (Test, Adjust & Balance). We work with local high schools throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington to teach students and teachers on the importance of taking Math classes as well as Construction electives to score higher on apprentice rankings.

ABC National recently released a report showing that Merit Shop apprenticeship program enrollment is up 60% and growing at a much faster rate than union programs.

ABC PNW doesn’t stop after Apprentices become Journey-level employees. Our Members receive workforce development classes, which provide employees with the skills they need to develop into upper management. Our Young Professionals program is for ABC PNW Members who are typically under 40 years old. This is a unique Emerging Leadership program providing classes such as Conflict Management, Contract Negotiation, and more. Our contractors see company success when developing staff to become future stakeholders and leaders.
